Have Bump? Hit Beach! Check Out These Maternity Swimwear You'll Love
One of the things that I love most about pregnancy is that, finally, it’s okay for your tummy to bulge. You can liberate yourself from sucking it in all day, desperately seeking spandex and wrestling with your Spanx, for crying out loud.
This new tummy freedom is especially welcome in the summertime. While the rest of us with pouches (and no baby inside) hide behind cover-ups, you get to show off your belly. And there’s just something great about being poolside or beachside while pregnant and looking ever so cute while you do it.
The big question is what type of swimsuit will flatter you while you’re pool decking it for two. There are different stylish swimsuits to choose from to keep your cool at the pool. You’ll find that most of the options range from two piece tankinis, tow piece bikinis, and one-pieces in maternity styles.
The tankini: The tankini is great for expecting mothers because it provides full coverage of the baby bump. It also allows you to have a little more freedom since the two-pieces are not attached. You have more opportunity to mix and match tops with different bottoms and to get more out of your maternity swimsuit. You can purchase two tankini tops and one bottom or viceversa.
The one-piece: The one-piece is a safe option, but it’s still stylish. Lucky for expecting moms, one-pieces are making a comeback for all women. The one-piece is great because it allow for different body types and different top preferences, such as tube and halter.
The bikini: Feeling like a hot mama! Go for it in this bikini! It shows off your expanded belly and your openness and comfort within your pregnant skin. Memo ladies: if you did not wear a bikini before pregnancy, this is NOT the time to try!
The best places to find fashion-forward maternity swimwear is at Target, Motherhood, and Old Navy. All of these shops have online stores, and offer great deals on maternity swimsuits. They also offer different types of swimwear, including mix-n-match two-pieces—tankinis and bikinis.
Whatever you do, don’t limit yourself, and get out there and hit the pool and beach. When you have a little baby occupying all of your time and energy in a few months, you'll be thanking me dearly for this advice.
