"Product Reviews" 2009 Holiday Gift Guide
Classy Mommy’s Holiday Gift Guide
'Tis the season to splurge on a gifts for loved ones. These are a few of my most favorite products from 2009 for the Big Kids. Moms, Dads, Aunts, Uncles, and Grandparents will all appreciate a splurge like the ones I’ve got listed below.
Digital Photo Frame – Any digital photo frame makes a beautiful and thoughtful gift, especially if you preload the frame with family photos for someone who is not very tech oriented like a grandparent. One of my favorite digital photo frames is the Kodak W1020 Digital Picture Frame, valued at $229.95, which I reviewed earlier this year. This 10-inch frame looks like your ordinary picture frame except this cool wireless digital frame stores up to 4000 pictures and can play video as well. You can upload directly from your Flickr or Kodak account, too. And you can also get the latest news, weather, sports and more - all from this frame! We kept things simple and just loaded our favorite pictures from our family beach vacation onto a USB drive and then put those on our frame to cycle around again and again. I love being able to see the kids at the beach, playing in the sand, and remember the lazy non-stressful days of our family getaway.
Keurig Single Coffee Cup Brewers, $100 - You'll love it. Guaranteed. These Keurig single-cup coffee brewers by Green Mountain Coffee top any other machine on the market. Totally gourmet. I've entertained with this as my brewer and guests can whip up their own cup of tea, hot chocolate or coffee in mere seconds. You can brew a fresh cup of coffee with the push of a button. I can't imagine a machine more convenient, as the pods are individually packed for each cup and so easy to use. I'm personally not an avid coffee drinker - if you met me you'd know I have too much energy already without any extra caffeine thrown into the mix - but my friends who are coffee fans rave about the delicious fair-trade Green Mountain Coffee, and, even before reviewing the Keurig, I heard tons of positive buzz on the product. And the best part for me is that now I can brew the PERFECT cup of coffee for a guest, since there is no room for error! Choose from over 45 varieties of coffee/tea and hot cocoa on the Green Mountain website, or fill the adapter with the ground coffee of your choice. Classy Mommy Approved!
iPod Touch, $220 – If you don’t already have an iPhone, you must get an iPod Touch. Truly, the technology on the iPod Touch and iPhone surpasses that of any of the products on the market. My husband bought the iPod Touch and it is amazing. Our wired family can't get enough of the iPod Touch. At the time we purchased it, both my 3 year old and 13 month old could even play with it - their skills are almost better than mine! You can watch movies, play music, play games - it does almost anything. The touch interface is simply awesome - it's indescribable. Here's a video clip of my 3-year-old daughter Kenzie ruling the iPod Touch. Trust me - your kids will love the iPod touch too. My kids love the Koi Pond application, Light Saber, and the Zippo Lighter. Seriously, my 13 month old really did play with it when we first purchased it. He’s now almost 2 and can even figure out which tunes he wants to listen to all by himself. You can check out tons of other fun and easy apps for the pre-school set here. Learn about everything you can do with an iPod touch at Apple's website.
Dyson Handheld Vacuum, $150 - Dyson recently sent me their DC 16 Root 6 Handheld Vacuum Cleaner to test and review and I am beyond impressed. It’s one of those products that, once it enters your life, you wonder how you ever survived without it. The suction is fantastic and it is ultra lightweight and easy to handle. We keep it plugged in all the time in our laundry room so it is fully charged and ready for use. It's easy to dump out your crumbs afterwards too. And at a price point of $150, its value can't be beat. With 2 kids under the age of 4, I need serious help in the cleaning-up department. My regular vacuum cleaner, which is also a Dyson that I purchased myself in 2008, does not pick up “chunks” or larger particles like a Cheerio or Goldfish unless I hook up the adapter – which I’m far too lazy to do. So until now, I’ve been forced to sweep up their mess, which was just no fun.
