Who Viewed my Linkedin Profile (and why it matters)

On Facebook, you've no doubt seen those spammy "See who's stalking you on Facebook!" apps.  The reality is those pesky apps won't let you see who has viewed your Facebook profile, but it will make sure it posts the message on all your friends' walls.  Do everyone a favor, don't click on those links.

However, on LinkedIn, you CAN indeed see who has looked at your LinkedIn profile.  This is fantastic for seeing potential companies that may want to recruit you, potential strategic partners for your business, potential clients, as well as old friends from high school, college, and former jobs.

In fact, I reconnected with an old college friend last week because of LinkedIn.  Instead of describing the banter back and forth, I'll just post it here.  My friend gave me permission to post, he just wants to remain anonymous.

After I used the method I'm about to describe to see who has viewed my profile, I requested a connection with said friend.

His response:

How are you?? So this is too trippy, I honestly ran across your profile on linkedin this morning and had it on my screen when I ran to a meeting, planning to shoot you a note this afternoon. I get back and here's your invite! Seriously, that's bizarre, right? I hope all is well, lets catch up soon.

My reply back to him:

Haha.

Not that bizarre considering I can see who has viewed my profile.  Yours is set to anonymous but it will show me nine possible people it could be when I click on "see".  You were the only one in that line up that I knew...SO...here we are!

Let's definitely catch up soon!

And his reply:

Haha, damn technology..... I knew there was a black helicopter circling my building.  Yes, lets catch up, beer, coffee, whatever.  I'm in **** if you're ever down this way and I'm usually pretty flexible.  Let me know.

So how did I do that?
