5 Items You Should Have in Your Purse at All Times
I'm pretty boring when it comes to the contents in my purse. I say boring because I've pretty much had the same "kinds" of things in my purse for the last 10-12 years! Not much has changed. And I'm talking my pre-mom days, too! It's not that I'm superstitious. Oh, no. It's just that I'm a creature of habit, and when I find something that "works," I stick with it.
And so, what have been my staples for the last 10+ years? Although, I do have one new item that has been a virtual fashion lifesaver! (You know, besides my wallet, cell phone and agenda.)
Would it surprise you to hear that my must-haves are all pretty much fast beauty fixes?
A girl's gotta be ready for anything!
First up? #1 on my list...
I actually started packing this in my purse in college to impress my then boyfriend (now husband!). We had just started to date and I always wanted to look fresh for him! The secret of mascara is that it literally pops your eyes. My special secret has always been to just do my top lashes, I never do my lower ones because (I feel) it looks way more natural. And... ahem... another trick I have learned. I double my mascara as eyeliner, when you're in a jam - it works beautifully!
#2 on my list of must-haves...
I am addicted to Donna Karan Cashmere Mist lotion. It smells AWESOME! This is why I always carry scented lotion - let's face it, we put on deodorant in the morning, but sometimes around 12PM things start to change... and I'm conscious of my own scent! By 12PM, I've usually been running around like a crazy lady all morning, and if I happen to be heading to a meeting or to an event or even into school, I want to make sure I smell good. I literally rub the cream all over my hands, my neck and my arms. It leaves such a delicious scent! You don't want to be caught smelling bad, it's not fun to think about, but it's something to keep in mind. I have always stuck to my scented lotion to keep me "in the clear!" It works!
#3 on my list of must-haves...
I'm probably the ONLY woman who had wet wipes in her purse BEFORE becoming a mom! I started carrying them in 2001... I actually remember when I started. My in-laws were about to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. I had gone to pick up a dress to wear at Ann Taylor for the occasion, as I went to try on some dresses, I was horrified to realize I left deodorant marks down the side of one of them. The salesgirl was standing there when I came out of the dressing room and I just started to apologize profusely... she smiled and said, "No worries, baby wet wipes gets everything out." And she pulled a box out and proceeded to show me. Like a Magic Eraser - gone were the stains!! They have been my lifesaver in many stain accidents - mostly baby spit up (when I eventually did become a mom!). I never leave home without a small package. And now with 4 sons, I have put the wet wipe stain removers to the ultimate test.
#4 on my list of must haves...
Oh, yes. How is this a beauty fast fix? Well... you won't feel confident or beautiful if you're worried about your breath. I'm not kidding. There's nothing worse! So I have ALWAYS kept a package in my purse and before I head into a meeting or any event, I pop one in my mouth. I don't know what it is about breath mints, but they really are a game changer. It's a quick fast fix when you're about to go into something you need to feel perfect for... an added benefit and pleasure. And I love to offer them up to people, and nobody ever refuses!
And my last must-have...
Hollywood fashion tape.
This has been a recent development for me. Double sided tape! It's MAGIC. I use the tape on my bra straps to keep them in place under my tank tops. I also use the Hollywood fashion tape to keep my strapless dresses and tops in place. Even when I was at BlogHer, I was the "emergency stylist" with my Hollywood fashion tape! I was using it left and right on my friends. It's also a wonderful tool to keep your scarves in place. This stuff is just the "real deal" and works amazing. I highly recommended that every woman has this in her purse!
