5 Minutes to Fabulous
Some women exercise, some women scrapbook, some women take spa days, and some women surf the internet. As moms and as women, we all have our releases – our little ways of combating stress. My personal release has always been makeup. I love taking the time to artfully apply makeup, to do something different, to experiment, to have fun, and could spend, quite literally, an hour doing so. When I became a mom, that all changed. Now I’m grateful to have 5 minutes where I’m not trying to convince someone a mere 3 feet tall to stop applying my Chanel lip gloss to her arms.
Since becoming a mom, I also value something else even more, and that is my sleep. I simply am not willing to get up an hour earlier to “artfully apply makeup” as I did in my younger (more naïve) days. Thanks to my love of sleep, I’m usually running out of the house in a hurry, as I know most moms are. As a tribute to all of the other moms out there who are suffering the same fate, I give you a beauty routine that will make you feel great but still get you out of the house in 5 minutes or less.
60 seconds: Apply a tinted moisturizer. Not quite a foundation, this is a more sheer solution that will give you some coverage and protect your skin from the elements. Choose one with an SPF to pack a triple whammy.
45 seconds: Apply a few dots of concealer to hide under-eye circles and to cover blemishes. Pat gently with your pinky finger to blend it seamlessly into your tinted moisturizer.
60 seconds: Apply a cheek and lip stain. I love cheek stains because they give me this flushed look, like I have been walking around NYC all day in cool fall weather. They are long wearing, and will give you that “just freshened up my makeup look” all day long. Draw 3 lines on your cheekbones and rub them in, then dab a bit on the center of your lower lip and rub your lips together. Finish off the look with a sweep of clear lip gloss.
60 seconds: Apply a neutral-colored eye shadow to your eye, making sure to hit the inner corner closest to your nose with a quick sweep of shadow as well. This will open up your eyes, and significantly reduce the “I’ve only had 4 hours of sleep in 2 days” look.
60 seconds: Apply two quick coats of your favorite mascara, remembering to sweep any leftover product over your bottom lashes.
15 seconds: Buffer zone. If you’re like me, you may have to use this time to remove the mascara from the side of your nose and reapply a bit of tinted moisturizer to that spot. Take these few seconds to correct mistakes, even things out, etc.
So that’s it. Five minutes from frumpy to fabulous – and a beauty routine that anyone can do. Give it a whirl, I know you’ll love it!
