All Minxed Up: A Holiday Trend to Try
This time of year gives me such an incredible rush. Twinkling lights, garland, Holiday music on my radio non-stop, and my favorite ever movie practically on repeat in the DVD player ("Love Actually," if you were wondering). Of course, as we've been talking about a lot this month, the Holiday Season also means Holiday parties and functions, so I wanted to clue you in on a very cool trend for your nails that will be even hotter for the Holidays.
If you've never heard of Minx nails, watch out. This trend is sweeping through celebrity circles and spreading like wildfire. Celebrities like Beyoncé, Blake Lively, Rhianna, Christina Aguilera, and Pink are huge fans of Minx, and the trend has even been popping up on the red carpet. When Audrey and I were at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week back in September, we had the opportunity to hear designer Norma Kamali speak before she presented her new line, and we both noticed her chrome nail color, which could only have been Minx.
So, you're wondering, what is all the fuss about? Minx nails are made of a flexible polymer that is heated under a lamp and then applied to your nails, just like a sticker! Yes, it's very bizarre, but the end result is very, very cool. Not only is it a green alternative to nail polish, but because of the nature of Minx nails you can actually have that shiny, mirror-like chrome look that is virtually impossible to achieve with a traditional polish. There are endless options, including some very cool patterns, that you can choose to sport at any given time. As far as I can tell, however, the Minx Silver and Minx Golden Lightning are by far the most popular - and what a great pick for the Holidays!
I had the opportunity to give some silver Minx nails a test run at Bliss in NYC when I was there for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and I fell in love with them. I had them applied the same night that we attended the Project Runway Reception and screening, and I got more compliments than I knew what to do with! My stylist applied the film to my nails and then literally shaped my nails with the film still on it until she filed them down to the desired length. It was a very surreal process, but the way I kept starting at my hands for the rest of the day would have had you thinking that I had been gifted with a new piece of diamond jewelry!
Personally, I just love the no-fuss, no chipping advantage of Minx nails. Just like all moms out there, I work hard and play harder - so my nails get a lot of wear and tear - even when I try to keep them neat. Minx nails offers a fashionable solution. I will warn you that they are quite a bit more expensive than your typical manicure - the average cost is $55. If you are willing to make the investement, however, I think they make a very unique and stylish statement, and one that you won't regret!
