Bathing Suits and Moms: Do They Mix?
I will never (ever) forget the time my husband bought me a bikini for Mother's Day - 4 weeks post having Benjamin. If there ever was a time I forced a smile, it was then.He was so proud of himself, wanting me to be thanking him for the size (way too small) XS green/white striped bikini. I sat there like, "Come again?" If ever there was a time that I did not feel bathing suit ready, it was immediately after having my 4 sons... and considering Ben being born in April and Henry being born in June, you catch my drift.
This is essentially how I dressed those 2 summers (in a row)...
Yeah, you see... never, ever showing skin in a bathing suit. Ever! I lived in tanks and skirts on the beach because nobody wanted to see my stomach or my hips/thighs.
But it got me thinking, here I am... it's been 3 years since I had a child and the summer is about 2 months away! What about bathing suits for moms? The ugly phrase is beginning to creep its way into many minds. The bathing suits are on full display in stores nationwide. Where can one find a bathing suit that actually looks (dare I say it) good?
And let's face it... do bathing suits and moms mix?
Because I am a reformed cynic (and a lover of the beach/pool and summer fashions), I'm going to say YES. Moms can find fabulous bathing suits to fit our needs. The funny thing is, women who have never had children do. not. understand. the mindset of a mom looking for a bathing suit.
1. Our boobs are in different places and/or different sizes.
2. Our hips have moved.
3. Our bodies have changed from the long pregnancies.
4. And working out... what's that again? ;)
But thankfully there are designers who understand the needs and wants for moms, and they have created bathing suits that flatter, shape and (oh, yes) look fabulous!
So when you're looking for a bathing suit this summer season, try my top 3 favorite places to check out bathing suits:
Lands' End - Simply because they have the best selection process out there! It's pretty incredible to shop for a bathing suit using this fit solution guide:
So if you're looking to "conceal thighs" you go for something like this...
Everything But Water - What I love about this site is that they actually lay out what shape flatters what body, and I think it's an easy way for moms to decide what it is that they would look good in (or at least feel comfortable in).
Take a look at this...
I just think this is such a fabulous way to "swim" (no pun intended) your way through the waters of bathing suit season.
Swimsuits for All - This is such a HOT spot for women! I love this site because it doesn't matter what shape and what size you are, you will find something beautiful for yourself!
What I love is their Fit and Flatter Interactive Guide...
Again, we're talking an easy way to figure out what's going to work for you the best when it comes to summertime bathing suit fun!
Happy (almost) summer moms!
