How To Dress Your Post-Baby Body
So, you've just experienced a miracle. You've given birth to the most precious little person and you've been left with a swollen and somewhat squishy body. Let's be real. It's going to take some time to get your pre-pregnancy body back, so you might as well relax, enjoy your baby and take advantage of these little tricks that will help make you feel attractive even if you're not feeling comfortable in your own skin right now.
After the birth of my first child (I'm currently four months pregnant with my second kiddo) I left the hospital with a huge chest and a still swollen belly. Nobody prepared me for the fact that even after my little guy had left the womb, I would still look like I was expecting. And let's not forget about my large-and-in-charge chest. I wasn't exactly flat chested before I got pregnant, but I had no idea just how much my breasts would grow...and grow...and grow.
So what does a gal wear when she wants to appear presentable, yet is dealing with a body she's not used to? Well, for me, flowy printed blouses were a lifesaver. They didn't cling to my stomach. They helped cover my newly acquired cleavage. And the busy print hid the spit up that my little cherub gifted me on a daily basis. My legs were the only thing that stayed somewhat the same, so I often showed them off in a pair of bold colored skinny pants. They were maternity pants of course. Comfort is king and I rocked maternity wear for several months post delivery! Just sayin'.
Don't worry...I haven't forgotten about accessories! Babies can be quite grabby and I found that a sturdy cocktail ring fared better than necklaces and earrings that my son could grab and, well, rip apart! And as much as I love my heels, they didn't come out of my closet again until I wasn't terrified that I was going to lose my balance and drop my bundle of joy. Flats were definitely in heavy rotation!
Did I mention that my body wasn't the only thing I had to worry about? Another addition that didn't exactly enhance my confidence were my under eye circles. New mamas are definitely working with a sleep deficit and slicking on some bright lipstick helped draw attention to my lips versus my tired eyes!
Don't get me wrong. I didn't get dolled up right away. Yoga pants were my best friend for a while. Being given the gift of motherhood definitely trumped the less than perfect body that I was left with, but every new mama reaches a certain point where she wants to feel like a woman again and not just a mommy machine. These simple fashion and beauty tips were how I pulled myself out of frumpville!
