Lovely in Leather: Chic Accessories
Leather. We all know it. Generally reserved for use as outerwear for those who ride fast motorcycles, designers embraced leather in their fall lines as just another fabric for shirts, skirts, shorts and evening dresses. While leather skirts and pants aren't exactly embraced as the classiest of choices, there is a way to incorporate a little leather, and consequently, a bit of an edge, into your look. To pull off that edgy look but still keep a firm hold on your practical sense of style (because, really, how many moms have you ever seen wearing a leather skirt, anyway? Actually, on second thought, don't answer that.), go for some classic or unexpected leather accessories. Try out a traditional piece such as the classic leather bomber jacket, which is making a huge splash in closets everywhere! I love this one from Bebe (on the left) - on sale for only $70, it's a great way to glam up your wardrobe on a budget. If you prefer faux leather, then try the option on the right by Calvin Klein - you can pick it up at Macy's for $110.
Booties have come back with a vengance this fall - I'm pretty sure there isn't a woman in NYC who wasn't wearing a pair at Fashion Week. Of course, my number one rule of style is whatever you wear, wear it with confidence - so if you aren't comfortable rockin' the bootie, then stick to your pumps. However, if you want to add that rocker-chic edge to your look, glam up a work dress with a pair of black tights and black leather booties. Not sure it can be done? I have proof, my friends! Check out the four examples below for inspiration!
Lastly, I love this creative way to infuse leather into a look, but it's also a very chic way for moms to pay tribute to their kids. Check out these awesome, personalized leather bracelets from Dillon Rogers. My favorite ones are the bracelets that are meant to wrap around your wrist three times and then secure with a charm. They even have a metallic silver leather that to me looks just like the real thing! You can personalize it with the name of your kids, a favorite saying, or whatever you want, and then you even choose the charm you'd like attached. So many options, so personal, and so very chic!
So go on, try it! Take a walk on the wild side and punk up your look a bit with some of these options. You won't be sorry you did!
