Macy's Making a Fashionable Difference
When fashion can make a difference, it's a pretty remarkable and special thing.
At Macy's right now, fashion is making a difference - and in very big and powerful ways.
My friend Sarah, from Sevans Strategy, is currently working with Macy’s on their Shop for a Better World Campaign, specifically Path to Peace. When Sarah sent me some information about this campaign, I have to admit… I was speechless. I sat at my laptop with tears streaming down my cheeks, truly realizing the power, the beauty and the change the Path to Peace campaign will bring to so many women. And for me, that was the key - women. Grandmothers. Mothers. Daughters. Sisters. Aunts. Cousins. Girlfriends. WOMEN. And all this is done through fashion making a true difference.
All the pieces in the Path to Peace Collection are one-of-a-kind works of art that are hand woven by the women of Rwanda. The beautiful, fabulous and awe-inspiring component of Path to Peace is that the sale of these items at Macy’s puts sustainable income into the hands of all the artisans who touched and created the pieces of work being sold. Pretty incredible, huh? Fashion making a difference in huge leaps and bounds.
I fell in love with the O Bracelets. The colors. The energy. The vibrance. The life. All of this is exuded from one bracelet. It's almost as if you can feel and see the change happening as you hold one in your hand. Lifetimes of stories, lifetimes of experiences, all to bring this bracelet to life. I love fashion making a difference. And this difference is the life-changing kind of difference. What Macy's is doing is beyond incredible.
Each O Bracelet has been around the world – quite literally. It’s the magic and beauty and magnificence of women working together, with the same goal and drive and passion to make the world a better place. The first threads are woven in Rwanda and the last knot is made in New Orleans. The making of these bracelets is giving these artists money to rebuild their lives and change the cycle for generations to come. Women of all ages, all working together. It's the beauty of the workmanship - it's all heart and soul.
I have been wearing the Red and Black O Bracelet everywhere, the Three of Us Bracelet – it’s made of red and black Czech glass beads. The Three of Us Bracelet… is a “beautifully woven Rwandan disk features three strong red lines connected to a red center. Each of these lines represents a woman – the Rwandan weaver, the New Orleans beader and you, the wearer – and celebrates the connection women share all over the world.”
The Path to Peace Collection is magnificent, there are so many styles and colors to choose from, and remember - Macy’s is not making a profit from these bracelets. They are 100% committed to supporting the women of Rwanda in this effort.
Fashion making strides to change a life. Now that's humanly fashionable.
