My Husband, the Fashionisto
My husband has always been a lover of fashion. Better put, he's always been a lover of putting himself together nicely.
I still remember what my husband wore on our very first date. We were both still in college and we were heading to the movies together, he came to my dorm to pick me up (oo-la-la)... and there he was, standing there waiting for me in a blue plaid button down shirt, jeans and a light tan suede jacket. He looked so handsome, honestly... I remember thinking just how handsome he looked. (Till this day, blue is his color!)
That was 13 1/2 years ago. We've come a long way together.
We've graduated from college.
We've been engaged and married.
We've moved to NYC and then back to RI.
And (the biggest thing) we've had 4 beautiful little boys together.
Not to mention, Matt's also lost over 80 pounds within the last 3 years.
And Matt's fashion self? The man I met in 1998 who always looked immaculate... has his fashion self endured any changes?
It's changed a bit throughout the years... mostly because of his job changes and a bit because of his weight gain and then weight loss. Dads go through fashion phases much like moms do, they're just not as obvious about it as we are.
It's funny, I spend so many of my days blogging about mom fashion that I hardly even stop to think about "dad fashion." My husband's style could easily be described the same way mine is... casually trendy. Matt knows how to dress himself and most importantly, he knows what will look good on him and what won't. When he worked for a bank when we first moved to NYC, he wore suits every single day. When he moved from that job into PR, he wore business casual clothing every single day. And then at his last job with Donna Karan, he wore, well... Donna Karan and DKNY clothing all the time, and still - with all those job changes, he knew what worked for him.
Just as I know to stay away from beige and yellows and oranges.
Matt knows to stay away from bright colors.
I joke that he's a fashionisto... but in actuality, he is. He really is. When Matt and I moved to NYC, as I've mentioned on Lifetime Moms before, I worked for Donna Karan. I loved it there... it was my fashion mecca where I felt like I learned so so so much about fashion and clothing and fabrics and patterns and what makes a garment sell. Well, I saw the change in Matt once he started working there, too. And I have to admit, as a woman... as his wife, I LOVE when he cares about what he puts on. To me, it shows confidence for oneself. If you don't care what you have on, I kind of feel like it's saying to the world, I just don't care what I look like. And my husband isn't like that. I also love having my sons see Matt dress nicely because (hopefully) it will rub off on them, too.
So what kinds of things does my husband wear that make me swoon? (He'll love reading this!)
Here are some examples of the kinds of stuff Matt wears when he is out and about:
He loves his salmon pants and Red Sox hat...
He looks incredible in a suit...
Cool in his avaitor glasses and tee and shorts...
Sweaters with button-down are his go-to Fall/Winter wear...
And our son's favorite - when he wears a Mickey tee!
As you can see, he's my fashionisto, and I LOVE it! :)
