New Year, New YOU!
“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
Coco Chanel said that... and it's one of my favorite fashion quotes.
The one thing I do love about fashion is that it doesn't come down to anything in particular. You aren't only fashionable if you read Vogue. You aren't only fashionable if you look good in the latest trends and styles. You aren't only fashionable if you can afford expensive clothing. You aren't only fashionable if you live in New York City. Fashion is everywhere and within everyone.
Every January 1st, most people write down their resolutions or goals for the upcoming year. I do this every single New Year's Eve. Most of our New Year's "Lists" probably look something like this:
- Lose weight
- Get organized
- Get healthy
- Start working out
- Save money
Why is it that we usually leave off - FASHION. And I don't mean this in a vain way... looking good and feeling good can be as simple as showering in the morning (sad to say that showering has become a luxury - double luxury, washing my hair!) or getting completely made-up from head-to-toe and heading out on the town.
Looking good and feeling good can be different and is different for everyone. Make this year about YOU. It's a New Year, it's a New You.
As Coco Chanel said, "fashion is everywhere." It doesn't just exist in a dress. Let 2010 open you up more to fashion... I'm even going to take my own advice! Find fashion and beauty everywhere, within you and around you.
Be daring this year!! And that doesn't mean dress like Lady Gaga!
In my Mom Generations post last week, I had mentioned that TURQUOISE is the 'it" color of 2010, wear it! Embrace it! Find a fabulous coat and wear it with passion. Buy a coat that's a different color than you normally would buy. I remember last year I vowed I would never buy ballet flats. I'm short enough (all 5 feet of me!)... why would I "show that off" when I could sport some dazzling heels? Well... I did it. I bought some and I LOVE them. I wear them all the time. I even (gasp) bought Mammoth Crocs. I vowed I would never buy Crocs for myself... and everyone kept saying how comfortable they were... they may not be "stylish", but they are comfortable. I wear them all day at home. I love them!
My advice is to do something different this year for fashion. Try skinny jeans! Try cowboy boots! Try a vest! Try bangle bracelets. Try a new hair color! Try a new gloss or lipstick! Try a smokey eye! We can be fashionable doing just about anything... don't forget that. Make sure what you're putting on in the morning is something you feel BEAUTIFUL in. Why not, right!? Buy something luxurious for yourself... cashmere or something "designer."
Embrace 2010 like a cozy sweater wrap (something else you should try!).
Happy FASHIONABLE New Year... It's a New Year, it's a NEW YOU!
