Ruffle It Up!
Lately I've been seeing a lot of ruffles. And I'm talking fashion ruffles. Tops. Skirts. Dresses. Sweater wraps. Clothing everywhere is emerging with this ultra feminine trend.
What I especially love about the ruffled look is that it transforms an outfit into the chic factor immediately. It's a delicate statement, but it's a lasting one. For me, ruffles remind me of tiers on a cake. Each ruffled layer falls perfectly and beautifully on top of another, just like layers on a cake. It's deliciously sweet and elegant!
And truly, ruffles are everywhere. Walk into any American mall, and you will see this trend taking shape in every store. Ruffles on coats. Ruffles down the fronts of blouses. Ruffles along shirt cuffs. Ruffles along hem lines. Ruffles on tank tops. Ruffle handbags. And the ruffles aren't restricted to just one type of fabric. Oh, no. There are ruffles on silk and cotton and leather and cashmere and wool and jersey. All bringing this fabulous trend to life. Also, the beauty of ruffles is that anyone can wear them. Sometimes, with an emerging trend,, there are specific body types that look better in it than others. Not with ruffles. It's a fashion statement open to everyone and anyone who wants to add a little bit more fun and playfulness to a wardrobe. With fashion, it's important to have these kinds of pieces, the ones that are meant for some fun and aren't taken out every single day.
The last time I really remember being into ruffles was when I was in high school (circa 1990's). I just remember everyone needing very particular ruffle poet shirts from Express. And honestly, it was one of my favorite tops. I used to wear my ruffled poet shirt with skirts and jeans and even shorts. It was just that different item in my closet that I loved mixing and matching. And really, the ruffles made it fun. So, it's so funny to be in my 30's, a mother of 4 little boys, and seeing myself going gaga for the ruffles right now. J. Crew and Banana Republic currently have some gorgeous pieces in their collections. Old Navy and TJMaxx also have many items sporting the ruffled look.
So go big or small with the ruffles. It doesn't matter. Take on what you feel the most comfortable in, but add some ruffle-abilia into your wardrobe. By adding a ruffle silk black tank top to your average pair of jeans, you will instantly see how much your confidence and attitude shifts up a notch. It's a classic, feminine, trendy and hot look for everyone right now.
