I'm starting to get the hang of this Fashion Week thing. This morning on my way to the tents, I slipped my heels into my bag and slipped my feet into a pair of comfy, squishy (but still with silver sequins) flip-flops. Did it go with my outfit? Not a chance. Did my feet thank me? You betcha. I ducked into Starbucks at the corner of Bryant Park and grabbed a tall non-fat Chai Latte, dug my press badge out of my purse, and strolled across the street to the tents. At the entrance I shimmied through the crowd and then stepped behind the barricade, flashing my badge and a smile at the security guards as I grabbed my copy of WWD.
I've gotta say, people who don't know me might think I actually know what I'm doing.
My first show of the day was Pamella Roland, and I was thrilled to be sitting in the second row, in the middle of the runway. Her Spring 2010 Collection was simply stunning. Both the collection and show were inspired by American artist Georgia O'Keeffe, and that inspiration was evident in the bright colors and delicate floral patterns. I wanted to walk away with over half of the items in the collection, spanning daytime, cocktail, and evening wear looks. My favorite dress is below, I couldn't help but fall in love with the color, silhouette, and wispy layers of chiffon.
I managed to get some great photos from where I was sitting -- I've included them for you below. For bonus points, can you spot the Real Housewives, Lisa Rinna, and Amanda Bynes in these photos? Celeb watching is becoming my second-favorite pastime at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The first, of course, is attending the shows!
Seriously, are those pieces gorgeous or what? There was also a lavender chiffon halter cocktail dress with a large ruffled collar that was to die for. Naturally, I was too busy drooling to get a decent shot of it, but it was absolutely fantastic. After the show, Pamella Roland walked halfway up the runway before stopping and hugging and kissing her children. Then, she pulled them up on the runway with her to walk the rest of it, and from what I've read, this is a tradition for her. As a mom, this really pulled at my heartstrings and I couldn't help but think of what a caring, classy way it was to close out her show.
I've got to say, Pamella Roland was one of my favorite shows this week. All of them have been incredible, but I felt that this one really personally hit home with my own unique sense of style. Like I said, I'd love to own over half the pieces from her Spring 2010 Collection. Now, if only my credit cards could agree...
