Spring Beauty: Don't Overdo It!
My face is so excited. (Yes, you read that properly.)
It's officially April and I haven't worn makeup since my last business trip over a week ago. It's fantastic. It's amazing. For me, it's even almost unheard of because I love makeup. I'll confess I wear a lot of it. I'm not talking Tammy Faye Baker lots, but, y'know, enough. None of that matters though, because it's spring!
My face is excited for the break. Don't go thinking that just because I stopped wearing makeup for a spell that I stopped taking care of my skin. Woah Nelly, now you're just talking nonsense. Let me remind you that I am still the mommy to the most strong-willed 3 year old on the planet - moisturizing is a must.
Here's the deal. Since it's spring, I'm giving you a free pass too. Go makeup free for a bit. Take care of your skin. Shake up your routine. Here are a few quick Spring Beauty tips that will leave you looking and feeling amazing.
Try a tinted moisturizer with SPF. This is your one-stop-shop for skincare this spring. Smooth some tinted moisturizer with SPF onto a clean face and you've got some minimal coverage to smooth out any little imperfections, you've rebalanced your skin's natural PH from washing with the moisturizer, and the SPF protects you from any additional sun damage. I'm not partial to a specific brand, though I've used Clinique's version with success. You've heard of a win-win. This is a win-win-win.
Cream Blush for the win! A cream blush like COVERGIRL's Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush is perfect because it combines moisturizer and makeup, goes on bold, but is easily blended with clean fingertips to create softly flushed cheeks. It is gorgeous, simple, and so very spring. Another brand to try? Benefit's Posy Tint.
Get Glossy! Lipstick is great for winter months when looks are more severe, but spring officially gives us permission to whip out the lighter, glossier colors - with or without a lipstain or lipstick beneath it. Try some brighter sorbet-colored hues this spring, or a color that compliments your newly flushed cheeks. The soft harmony of the two won't go unnoticed.
Get Nude! Your nails, that is. A nice laquer is always welcome, even if it is a nude color. This spring is about looking clean and well-groomed, not necessarily wowing with the hottest color nails. My all-time favorite nude polish? Mademoiselle by Essie.
Don't Overdo your Do! Spray your lucious locks with a leave-in conditioner and let them air dry. Pin your hair back into a messy bun and tie a 1 inch thick ribbon around your head (a la Jennifer Garner in 13 Going on 30 - where she ties it at the top of her head in a perfect bow, then slides the bow underneath her hair so that just the ribbon shows). Pick a basic color like black or white as to not look too cheerleader-ish and you have some insta-chic. You're welcome.
And hey, hot mama? You know the best part about these tips? You can combine them to create a 5 minute power routine to get you going in the morning - do it and be done with it. Remember - simplicity is key!
