Spring Scents: 5 to Try
I’ll never forget being a teenager and listening to a woman that I respected both professionally and personally talk about the importance of perfume. Now, I know that might seem like a strange sentence, the importance of perfume - but she had some great points. She said that a woman should always wear perfume - the olfactory system is among one of the strongest in the body and so many people associate memory with scent. Of course, to capitalize on this, she continued, a woman should choose a signature scent and stick with it - almost like a sense of identity that will unconsciously remind others of you when they smell it.
Naturally, she was french.
While I haven’t had a “signature scent” in almost 5 years, I do love perfume and playing around with different scents for different seasons. I wore and adored Sarah Jessica Parker’s “Lovely” throughout my entire pregnancy - sadly I have never been able to wear it again because it now brings on very strong memories of morning sickness! Before that I wore Chanel’s Chance, and before that Ralph Lauren’s Romance. I still love Romance and I can smell it on another woman from a mile away. If I ever had a signature scent, that was it.
Currently I’m wearing Michael Kors’ Very Hollywood and loving it, but I’m considering switching to something different for spring. Just like floral dresses are in style, so is the season for light, floral scents. Don’t worry, we’re not talking about the heavy kind of floral perfume that reminds you of your grandmother or your great-aunt Gertrude, but a light scent with floral notes. Just in case you need some inspiration - here are a few to try:
1) Marc Jacobs “Daisy Eau So Fresh”
2) “Eternity Summer” by Calvin Klein
3) Versace’s “Versense”
4) “Diorissimo” by Christian Dior
5) “Preppy Princess” by Vera Wang
The great thing about all of these scents is that they will take you through spring right into summer, so enjoy!
