Spring Workout Fashions
Spring fashion is out in full force. Just look around. There are fabulous styles and trends everywhere. But what about workout clothes? Lots of moms are getting themselves into shape with summer almost upon us. Let's face it, we want to be able to hit the pool and beach without having to wear a tent. Well, let me tell you... there are some FABULOUS Spring Workout Clothes available right now. The colors are bright and vibrant. The fabrics allow you to breath and sweat without feeling soaking wet. And most important, the comfort factor and fit - there are so many different options that help you truly define and hone in on what you're looking for - sport-wise and fit-wise.
If you're into SPINNING:
The SPIN classes have been packed at my gym lately. Women are definitely into it and loving it. On the fashion-front for spin, find shorts or pants with a stretch to them. You don't want anything bulky or boxy hanging off your legs as you're trying to spin. You also sweat a lot in a SPIN workout, so wear lightweight clothing. Try to find items with moisture-wicking technology because it will really help reduce the amount of sweat on your clothing. If you're looking to be a little stylish - add some color to your SPIN outfit. There's nothing like some yellows, oranges and pinks to brighten up a spin room.
If you're into CROSS-TRAINING:
I'm in the "cross-training" group. I'm training for a 1/2 marathon and have been mixing up my off-running-days with some biking and weight training. On the fashion-front for cross-training, find some active shorts (not too short!) that fit you well and are extremely comfortable. With cross-training comes running, squatting, biking, bending - you're literally all over the place. Also, it's essential that you find a sports bra that truly fits you well, too. There are some athletic tanks with built-in shelf bras that work beautifully. But you absolutely need to make sure you're tucked and supported in all the right places. Last, find yourself an incredible lightweight hoodie. Having an extra layer to wear when leaving your class is always a good thing for warmth and style.
If you're into YOGA:
Yoga is an incredible workout. When you're doing yoga, you're doing lots of stretching... you need to be in clothing that allows you to be flexible, allows you to stretch and gives you the support you need to try different poses. My best advice is to find actual "yoga pants." They usually come with a fold-over adjustable waist band for ultimate comfort, and the pants give you the perfect amount of needed stretch. For a top, find something with a shelf-bra that is very lightweight. You don't want any extra clothing holding you back. You need clothing fitted to your body perfectly snug.
If you're Pregnant:
When you're an expectant mom, it's very important that you keep yourself as active as you possibly can. It helps the pregnancy and it helps you breathe and move. There are so many great maternity activewear lines, ones that grow with you. My advice (having been pregnant four times) is to find shorts/pants with a fold-over waist. This way you can adjust the waistband to fit over or under your belly in the most comfortable way possible, especially as your belly grows. There are sports bras that keep you covered without being too tight. Believe me, your breasts will change and need extra support! Layer some cotton tanks and/or tees. Cotton is a breathable fabric and will feel soft and cozy over your belly.
