Today I was treated to some excellence! Ultra-delectable excellence! Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is all about the pretty and glamorous... and if there's one thing I've learned this week, that's on and off the runway pretty!
Robert Verdi was kind enough to open up his Luxe Laboratory and host a Survival of the Chicest Fashion Retreat sponsored by CVS/pharmacy.
Now this is something I never get told to do at home: "Sit down and relax." Let me tell you, those were the sweetest words to hear as I walked into Robert's chic and oh-so-trendy 12th floor midtown loft space. White furniture. Orchids. Hip music. Drinks and food. I'm telling you, if I didn't know any better - I would have thought this was a Punk'd episode... I'm so not used to this "celebrity treatment."
First was hair by Andre. I told him I wanted my hair to look loose and fun... and that I wanted my bangs to curve to the right, over my eyes. He took one look at me and said, "We're doing a modern Farrah." And let me tell you, modern-Farrah it was - and it stayed put all day long. He used Cristophe products on me that were out of this world. I have never used these products before, so I was worried about my hair looking or feeling heavy, but it was so not the case. He tried some Conditioning Spray on me that worked miracles. My hair is usually so frizzy and wild in this kind of weather, and it really tamed it well. Kept it smooth and silky all day long. (I have a photo as proof!) Now if only I can try to keep my hair like this until I get home for my husband to see! Thank you, Andre! You're the best.
Then I moved on to makeup with the amazing JAKE. Not only was he the nicest and funniest man, but he kicked back and chatted away about makeup and all things beauty (I loved it!). Jake used all Covergirl products on me, so it was incredible to get some sneak peeks at what's going to be hot and new for Fall... he tried some on me! I have never used anything but Covergirl's eyeshadow, so I was excited to see what he could do. Usually I tell someone doing my makeup that I love smokey eyes or really nude lips... with Jake, I said, "Have some fun!"
He used on me (which I love and went out to buy after the makeover!) Simply Ageless Foundation (#245), Lash Blast Length Mascara (OMG, this is AMAZING!), Outlast Lipstain (#445) and a dark purple eyeshadow to "smoke" up my eyes. He said purple is the color to go with (and HUGE for Fall) if you have really light eyes. I loved loved loved it! What got me the most out of any of the products he used on me was the Lash Blast Mascara... talk about BLASTING your lashes! They looked thicker in seconds. It was the coolest thing. My eyes are usually what I like to play up when it comes to makeup, so seeing and trying this mascara was HEAVEN! It made such an apparent difference.
So that was my oh-so-fun afternoon of straight-and-utter pampering... not to mention, later in the day I got to meet - the one and only - Jillian Michaels. I went from beautifying my face and hair... to learning how to beautify my body. Not a bad day in NYC for me. I'm getting used to Fashion Week... very quickly and very easily. Now, let's go find some CLOTHES!
