Trend Watch: Fall 2010 - Soft, Cozy Knits
What a whirlwhind. I've returned from the Fall 2010 shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, and am still playing catchup. Being at the shows is an amazing rush and I am very much in "work-mode" while I'm there. Diligently taking notes, making contacts and connections, and making little recaps of shows in my notebook. Then I come home to a little blonde 3 year old, and the fashions all start to blur together. I take a look around at my life, the REAL me, and think - what of these styles and fashions are things that I can reasonably incorporate into my daily life? It was that little process that brought me to recap one of the first trends for the Fall - the knit.
The Fall 2010 designs have hit the runway, they have come and gone, but there is a lingering feeling that everyone is ready to wrap themselves up in a coocoon for the fall. You've heard it from me - cozy is in. Big wraps, soft wools, and lots of "cozies" seemed to be coming down the runway everytime I blinked. So, my first takeaway and trend prediction for Fall 2010 is just that, the wrap, the chunky sweater, the caplet - all kinds of chunky and cozy knits, will be something to watch for Fall.
Here I've recapped a few of my favorites:
This look from Pamella Roland left me BREATHLESS. I loved the sheer blouse, the leather gloves, and the chunky knit short sleeved sweater on top. She cinched the waist of the look with a blinged-out belt that made another appearance on some formal looks - but I loved how she used it here. The purple scarf was the icing on the cake for me. I leaned over to my friend and fellow Lifetime Mom Katja when I saw this and said "think I can walk out of here in that?". Five stars, not that I expected any less from my admittedly favorite designer.
I loved this look from Michael Kors, I'm not sure how he managed to make a chunky, but still body conscious sweater dress, but somehow he did and that is exactly why we love him. This dress hugs the model's body but still leaves me with that warm, cozy, safe feeling - just by looking at it! I love the camel colored boots paired with the thick socks - when I saw this look on the runway it took me a second to realize it wasn't one shoe. I saw a lot of that on the runways as well, though I should say that with all of this warmth, I can't imagine leaving my knees bare - no matter how cute it looks in the photo!
The last look is from Yeholee's Fall 2010 collection - I love the sweater with headwrap, combined with this soft camel colored sweater-like swing coat. I even love the tailored pants with rolled cuffs - more fitted than a boyfriend jean but with definite hints of the trend. I just want to wrap myself up in all of the soft fabrics in this look, every texture is just screaming to be touched.
So, for Fall 2010, go for a chunky knit, a wrap with leggings and a long t-shirt, something that just makes you feel good. Take a cue from Pamella Roland and cinch it with a belt to give it a more feminine feel, but go for it, cozy is in!
