Cocktail Chic and a Sparkly Look for Moms
We’re moving right along in Project Runway All Stars- land lovelies! Can you believe the third episode has already aired? Are you loving it as much as I am? I could watch this season, for the Christopher and Viktor Luna show alone, all day long! Is it just me or are those two crazy cats HILARIOUS?!? They give Michael Kors a run for his money with their one-liners…and they were in rare form in this latest episode!
Episode number three opened with the designers heading off to Jay Z’s 40/40 Club for what they thought was a night out on the town. Silly designers….Haha! I’m sure they knew that a twist was headed their way and a couple of them said as much as soon as they heard Alyssa Milano’s voice. What she had in store for them was, actually, an uber cool challenge! She asked them to choose one of the club’s signature cocktails and use the color, ingredients and presentation as inspiration for a cocktail dress.
Since Michael won the last challenge, he chose first and went for a drink called The Spotted Plum. I can’t fault him for his choice. I’m into plum myself. It’s such a pretty color to wear no? Some of the other cocktails up for grabs were The Rose, Sardinia, Summer, The Sunset and Strawberry Fields. Each designer picked another to go next until they ended with Irina and Strawberry Fields. None of the cocktails were an ugly hue by any means, so not even last to be chosen Irina got hosed. There was much inspiration to be had and each designer seemed to have a clear vision of what they wanted to create pretty early on.
As was the case with his season, Viktor Luna has quickly proven that he is a force to be reckoned with. I, for one, adore his aesthetic and when he chose a chapel inspired print for his cocktail interpretation, I knew something killer was headed our way…And I wasn’t disappointed. Were you? The cutout top of his dress was simply divine and really made me want to work out the old shoulders some more. Haha! It was no surprise when he ultimately took the win.
Another favorite look of mine also involved cutouts…Elena came forth with yet another edgy piece, albeit a bit too Balenciaga inspired for guest judge Nate Berkus’ taste. Of everything up there on the runway, her dress was the one I wanted in my own closet the most. Just sayin’.
Actually, Christopher’s beaded flapper inspired creation would be very welcome in my wardrobe too. I’m a sucker for sparkle and the way the crystals glittered on his rose inspired beauty caught my eye immediately.
What didn’t appeal to my senses was Jeffrey’s burnt velvet jeweled collar number. It confused me a bit actually. What happened to rock and roll Jeffrey? I want to see that guy again! In fact, I was surprised that he wasn’t sent home over Melissa. While I wasn’t in love with her suede asymmetrical dress, I didn’t think it was the worst look of the challenge, but I digress…
I ended up choosing Christopher’s sparkles as my inspiration for this week’s outfit…It’s such an easy going out on the town look…Throw a blazer on over a glitzy tank, add a pair of boyfriend jeans and nude heels and you’re done! For makeup, I would go for a more neutral look since the sparkle is attention getting enough on its own. A swipe of Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color in Iced Cocoa, which goes on fairly sheer, would be just the ticket!
