Down with the Drop Crotch and a Moto Look for Moms
If there is something I’m not, it’s outdoorsy. My family goes camping twice a year and, save for one time, I’ve always passed up on the chance to join them. It’s not that I don’t enjoy quality time with the fam, because nothing makes me happier…it’s the whole idea of sleeping outside that just doesn’t appeal to me. Ha! So, when the "Project Runway" designers were told that they were about to go on a “glamping” adventure, I was far from jealous. I mean how glam can camping really be? There’s dirt right? I do not associate glamour with dirt…but that’s just me.
However, when I saw how peaceful they all were while reveling in the great outdoors, I almost reconsidered joining my family’s camping trip. Obviously, some glamour will have to be inserted into my family’s plans. I wonder if the “Project Runway” team is available? Haha!
The designers didn’t go glamping for kicks..They were there to draw inspiration from nature to create their garments and most of them seemed to take it right away, except for Alexandria that is. Being at the bottom in the previous challenge clearly got to her and she was a big ball of stress while everyone else frolicked around the campsite. That being said, pressure isn’t always a bad thing. When the designers got back to the work room and started draping their forms, I knew Alexandria was on to something. The denim jacket and drop crotch pants that she designed were definitely modern. Now, please know that drop crotch pants have forever been on my don’t list. I hate them. I don’t think they’re flattering in the slightest bit. Who wants to walk around looking like they’re rockin’ a droopy diaper? Not this girl! But just because I don’t like something, doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the design of it. I can’t imagine anyone but an uber cool chick stepping out in Alexandria’s ensemble and while you won’t ever catch me in those pants, I can see why she took home the win…And that moto jacket was insane. THAT I would wear in a heartbeat. Just sayin’.
As far as the losing designer goes, it was Justin and I felt SO bad for him. He really went out on a limb by attempting to create lace with a glue gun. He clearly tried so hard and was heartbroken when his efforts didn’t pay off. Le sigh. It just didn’t work though and I was rather surprised when Tim Gunn used his save to keep Justin around. But then again, he IS Tim Gunn…He must think that Justin has much more in him and I, for one, can’t wait to see what it is!
For this week’s episode inspired look, I decided to use Alexandria’s moto jacket as my inspiration to create a cool, yet feminine ensemble.
