Goodbye for Now and a Comfy-Chic Look for Moms
What happens when you get down to four finalists focused on their work and not on creating drama? You get a finale full of top-notch designs of course! The only drama that we saw in Season Twelve’s final episode, apart from one of Justin’s models breaking her ankle, was that which the stellar runway show created on its own.
Can you believe that it is over? I think Season Twelve was one of the best seasons yet. The talent was at a very high level pretty much across the board. We saw less gimmicks and more design. Hallelujah! While I can definitely rank the collections in order of my favorites, I was able to choose at least one piece from each of them that I would love to bring home…and that hasn’t always been the case in seasons past. The season was refreshing on so many levels and I’m sorry to see it end. Le sigh.
At the beginning of the episode, we saw the designers frantically trying to finish their sewing. They seemed stressed, but no more so than the designers who came before them and they seemed to have a lot more done than is typical of the finale. I think Dom expressed it perfectly when she said that she had a lot to do, but she knew she could get it done. These four finalists brimmed with confidence and deservedly so. Every single one of them should be extremely proud.
While there is one collection, in particular, that I didn’t necessarily love, there is no question that the designer is a great talent. I just couldn’t get into many of Bradon’s shiny and floral textiles, but he will always remain a favorite of mine because he did create so many garments that I adored over the course of the season…And the proposal to his boyfriend is “Project Runway’s” greatest romantic moment in my book! Also, I would like to get my hands on his Tide washable look. Just sayin’.
As for Alexandria, we saw more “cool girl,” leather infused looks that are welcome in my closet any day. Comfort is king now that I am a mama, so if I can run around in clothes that are easy, yet clearly stylish…that’s a win in my book. I don’t know if a busy workin’ mama is Alexandria’s target client, but she’s made a fan of this one!
Justin’s futuristic 3-D print accessories grabbed me the most as the clothes were so minimalist. They were simple, yet definitely showed a point of view, so I can’t fault him…And I’ll never get over the test tube dress…That beautiful piece belongs in a museum!
Last, but certainly not least, we have dear Dom. Does anyone else just want to give her a hug? She is so darn sweet…and so darn good. Her use of blues and purples in bold prints was right up my alley. I can absolutely see why the judges gave her the grand prize! Her collection was interesting, cohesive and sellable. Sellable and interesting don’t always go hand in hand…Am I right?
Although, Dom’s prints were divine, I decided to use Alexandria’s collection for my final “Project Runway” Season Twelve inspired outfit, as I am so obsessed with leather this fall…
See you back here for All Stars lovelies!
