Hot Trends in Fall Maternity Clothing
By Mollee Bauer, General Manager, Pregnancy.org
You might have a bit of a hard time thinking about needing a winter coat or clothing as the temperatures are still blistering hot. So what are the latest trends for fall 2012? It looks like well-fitting maternity coats, “skinny” jeans, stripes and tailored shirts and dresses will be the big hits. Be gone baggy sacks and maxi dresses!
Maternity coats always tend to be the item that most pregnant women tell themselves they don’t need, figuring they can get by with their non-maternity outerwear. You don’t want to do that. There are plenty of classic, timeless options to keep you and the bun-in-the-oven warm. Look for 80% wool with full lining – which is a mandatory requirement for maternity coats). Also, you’ll want to go one size larger to make sure it fits during the third trimester.
Can skinny jeans and pregnancy co-exist? We say yes! You can find ones that are “under-the-bump,” extremely fitted and actually look good. This doesn’t necessarily equate to “comfy” however. But if you’re the fashion-bug type, this will be a must-have item for your fall collection. The big bonus here is that you’ll wear these jeans for months after giving birth because your non-maternity “skinny” jeans are, well, not quite fitting as they used to. If you’re one of the lucky ones, bless you!
Winter means sweaters and long-sleeve tops. Can you say cardigans and pullovers? They’re a great transitional item for fall and spring. Maternity sweaters are open at the belly giving you plenty of room during your nine-month journey. Trending are shortened V-neck collars to make your torso look longer or deeper collars and empire waists to give you plenty of room at the waistline.
Another top trend is solid colors coming back. Sticking with a solid color makes your figure look streamlined and elongated. You can pair neutral colors like white or beige with other neutral tops and sweaters for a sleek, modern look.
Being pregnant doesn't mean you can't look good. Pregnant women can dress in style by buying clothing that looks good on them and wearing key accessories. Don't be afraid to play with colors and be proud of your beautiful bump.
