Style Tip: How to Wear Layers Without Looking Bulky
It’s finally started to cool down here in Florida which means I get to bust out my beloved sweater collection! I know…I know. It’s kind of crazy that a Florida girl collects cold weather wear. What can I say? I UBER heart sweaters, scarves and coats. There is a practical side to my obsession you know. I have plenty of things to pack in my suitcase when I head to the Big Apple each year. Yeah…I’m obsessed with NYC too. But I digress…
I know that so many of you have been dealing with downright frigid temps for quite a while now, so layering is probably a big part of your day to day style! As important as layering is for staying warm, it can leave a gal feeling a bit dowdy. There’s no reason you have to look bulky when donning your layered looks though!
Big old chunky knit sweaters make up a large part of my sweater acquisitions. Here in Tampa, I don’t have occasion to wear a coat very often, even though I own a few too many of them, so an oversized sweater is usually just enough to keep me cozy. Skinny jeans and a pair of sleek riding boots on the bottom balance out a slouchy silhouette on top.
If you aren’t a sunshine state resident, however, you might want to stick to sweaters that are cut a bit closer to the bod if you’re rockin’ something like a puffy coat. There are some downright darling puffy coats out there, but wearing bulky pieces under them can cause one to puff up a bit TOO much! So, a fitted long sleeve t-shirt and a slim cut cardigan are the kind of pieces you should be looking for to sport with your skinnies and boots.
Here’s an outfit that will work perfectly under your outwear while keeping you nice and toasty. And if you get a bit too warm when you’re inside you can just shed a layer or two. That’s the beauty part of layering! Oh…and I added a bit of sparkle because nothing perks up a winter look like SPARKLE!
