Team Trauma and a Bold Look for Moms
Did anyone else have a déjà vu moment when you found out that the latest challenge on “Project Runway” was another unconventional materials challenge? It seems like there have been a slew of them, but I dig it. Using unusual materials has forced the designers to dig deep and it’s been very interesting seeing what they’ve come up with no? What I haven’t dug so much, however, has been the bickering that’s come with the team challenges. I can’t help myself…I have to complain a bit about this again. Do you enjoy watching them pick at each other? Ugh. As soon as the teams were announced for the latest challenge, you knew which group was going to have a problem. Ken, Sue and Alexandria were a toxic mix.
This challenge called for the designers to create a luxe mini collection that could be inspired by the beautiful Lexus vehicles they were given to drive around town, as well as the materials that they selected from a variety of shops, none of which were even close to Mood.
Respect wasn’t exactly in abundance on the toxic team and most of Ken and Alexandria’s time was spent contradicting one another while Sue withered like a dying flower. That dynamic carried right on through to their tragic runway appearance which began with Sue’s model barely making it out clothed. After it was clear who the bottom team was, Ken and Alexandria continued their bickering, as well as complained about Sue’s lack of sewing ability. I was completely in Nina’s corner when she stopped them and made it clear that they could complain about Sue all they wanted, but their looks weren’t taking home any prizes either. I wouldn’t have expected either one of them to present garments quite like the ones they did. It seemed like the whole team just gave up. In the end, someone had to go home from this sad sad team, so Sue was sent packing. I think the other two were just lucky that the judges didn’t make it a bigger elimination.
Now that we’ve discussed the unsuccessful collaboration, let’s look at the dream team that was Jeremy, Dom and Kate. Their striking metallic palette was killer. The three looks together were perfectly cohesive and while all the designs were lovely, I particularly liked the sparkly stripes going down Jeremy’s white, strapless bustier style dress, although larger cups wouldn’t have been the worst thing in the world. Haha! These three are well on their way to having spots on my favorites list. Who am I kidding? Along with Bradon, they’re already there!
In honor of their gorgeous mini collection, I decided to use metallics in my episode inspired look too! I couldn’t resist adding just a touch of color in the form of a bold clutch. This ensemble is happy hour ready…Cocktails anyone? I’ll take some champers! Care to join me? I’m always up for a glass of bubbly. Just sayin’!
