Who’s Got the Goods? and an Edgy LBD for Moms
This post is bittersweet for me to write because it means we now only have one episode left of this season of “Project Runway”. Sitting down to watch it is such a fun part of my week, so I’m always left a bit sad each time a season ends…Le sigh. On the up side, it was one killer episode!
When we last watched “Project Runway”, we learned that Justin, Alexandria and Helen were going to have to compete against each other for spots next to Dom and Bradon in the finale. The latest episode opened with Tim Gunn heading out to visit the designers in their own towns to see how they were coming along with their collections, which included an unconventional materials look. After previewing the collections, three designers excited me and two left me concerned…Let’s start with my favorites!
Dom, of course, had designed some amazing prints and Tim gave her the awesome suggestion to have them all produced on knits. Genius! I don’t know about you guys, but I big puffy heart a good knit and I can’t wait to see how all her pieces come together. I was also all about Justin’s modern aesthetic. His unconventional materials look consisted of a gown created from test tubes that looked like feathers and it was obvious that it was going to be nothing short of amazing. As was Alexandria’s use of leather. I know not everyone always appreciates her designs and I’m definitely not a huge fan of her beloved dropped crotches, but a girl has to think if she put on some of Alexandria’s garments, she would instantly feel cool!
As for who worried me…Helen’s overt confidence made for some serious foreshadowing. I didn’t really get where her clairvoyance inspiration fit in with her designs and I don’t know if she did either. After such a strong showing all season, her somewhat simple collection surprised me. Bradon’s prints caught me off guard as well. They were borderline matronly…no?
If you didn’t catch the episode, you’re probably wondering who we’ll be watching in the finale. Well, Dom and Bradon will be there, obviously, and even though Nina has some major concerns about whether Alexandria can bring the wow factor, she’ll be there too. They also gave Justin the go ahead and that just left Helen. Alas, Helen’s time on Project Runway is officially over. While they clearly believed that she is a promising young talent, the judges just didn’t think she was ready. They were probably right. I’m pretty sure we’ll be hearing about her in the future though!
As we bid farewell to Helen, I’m using her little black dress as inspiration for this week’s look. I edged it up with some booties and added a statement necklace for a bit of sparkle. This outfit will give you the cool girl vibe we all secretly want to give off and is perfect to rock at a holiday party this winter!
