British Babies Remain Nameless While New Moms Await Royal Birth News
Today is Kate Middleton’s official due date and royal-baby-watch fever is in full swing, with reporters camped outside of London’s St. Mary’s Hospital awaiting the first clues that Kate Middleton is in labor.
But it isn’t just the media who have been waiting with bated breath for the arrival of Kate and William’s baby. Netvouchercodes.co.uk, a U.K. discount shopping website, found that new U.K. moms are willing to leave their own newborns nameless until they find out what the royal prince or princess is going to be named….and then name their own kid after him or her. Parents in the United Kingdom are allowed six weeks after the birth to name their newborns, so legally, it’s not a problem.
Now, chances are that Kate and William are NOT going to choose something wacky like, well, North West or Cricket or Apple or Ace. They are going to go with something pretty conservative – bookies say the best odds for a girl are on the name Alexandra or Charlotte. For a boy, it’s George or Francis.
“My husband and I have decided to wait to see what the royal baby is called before naming ours," one pregnant survey respondent told Netvouchercodes. “We have thought of quite a few names but we both decided it would be lovely to see what Will and Kate choose first. I love the name Alexandra so if we have a girl then it may well be the most straightforward decision we have to make."
Another mom-to-be said, “My baby is due before the royal baby, but I already know I definitely want it to have the same name. The birth of Will and Kate’s baby is such a monumental event that is going to be remembered forever, just like the royal wedding. Giving my baby the same name is my personal way of celebrating.”
What do you think about folks waiting to find out the name? I think it’s going a bit overboard – especially if people are choosing the royal baby’s name over a family name.
We likely won’t have too much longer to wait until we hear the happy news – and all these nameless babies can finally receive their personalized pillows!
