Facebook Adds “Expecting a Baby” Option: Would You Use This?
Want to tell the world that you are expecting a baby? Well, Facebook can help.
Some parents-to-be already post the big news on their wall accompanied by photos of sonograms, close-ups of burgeoning bellies etc. But Facebook rolled out a new “Life Event” option recently which lets you update your status to “Expecting a Baby”.
Interested? Here’s how it works:
- Click on “Edit Profile,” and then click “Friends and Family” on the left side.
- Next, click on “Add another family member,” and select “Expected: Child” from the drop-down list". Note: This is different from "New child," which is the post-baby announcement.)
- You can then plug in your baby-on-the-way’s name and your due date.
Word to the wise: This will show up in your friends’ news feeds – as in, EVERYBODY.
"Life Events are easy and expressive ways to mark significant moments in your life such as getting married, buying a house or traveling to new places," explained a Facebook blog post. "If you choose to, you can now share that you are expecting a baby with your friends on Facebook."
It’s a bit different than changing your status from “Single” to “Married”, no? And it’s certainly not for the cautious types out there. Personally, I wouldn’t do it – while I’m not overly superstitious, something about having it so prominently displayed makes me nervous. I’d hate to think about having to change it if god forbid something happened – all for the world to see.
How do you feel about it? Would you use this new Facebook option?
