Mariah Carey Cops to Being a Nanny Firing Machine and I Don’t Blame Her
Mariah Carey’s got a rep for being difficult to work with so just imagine what she’s like to work for!
The self-described diva revealed in a recent interview that she’s a hands-on mom to her 2 1/2-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, and oh yea – she’s also a nanny firing machine.
“Unfortunately I have to have nannies but I’ve very hands-on,” Mariah told "The Breakfast Club" radio show. “I fire nannies like this (snaps) and I hate doing it, but I have to because if they try to make themselves more important in the baby’s mind than me…” (and then gestured a throat-cutting motion).
Motherhood has certainly turned out to be a bit different than the 43-year-old singer had expected. In a pre-kids interview she did with Larry King in 2009, she insisted, “I wouldn’t be just like, ‘Oh, I’m having a child, Yay! Let me get a nanny so I can give her the baby. Take the kid.’ That doesn’t work for me. I don’t believe in that.” Well, apparently she does!
Look – I can relate to Mariah in a way. While I’m not famous, I don’t have twins, I’m not rich, I don’t have a smoking bad…wait, what was my point? Oh yea – I have had the same nanny for 8 years and while it’s a huge relief to know that my kids love and trust her, I can get a little jealous. This especially holds true when they were younger. If she hugged the kids goodbye at the end of the day a little longer than I liked, I’d have to fight the urge to lunge towards her and I found myself saying really stupid shit on the weekends like, “Doesn’t mommy make MUUUUUUCH better oatmeal than Rosie”?
I think it would probably be in the kids’ best interest if Carey didn’t switch her nannies so much but hell, I’m not going to criticize. She’ll get there.
And as for her hubs Nick Cannon, Mariah devulged a few details on his take on hands-on parenting as well, saying, “Nick, he has fun with dem babies when they’re fun. And then when it’s like they’re interfering with other things, they go to the crib, and that’s fine.” Maybe he’s worried Carey won’t want him around either if the kids start cozying up too much to him too!
