Reese Witherspoon Gets Arrested and Shows Us Just a Little Bit About Who She Really Is
Yesterday the news broke that this past Friday, Academy Award winner/America’s sweetheart/perky blonde Reese Witherspoon and her husband were arrested in Atlanta. Her husband, CAA agent Jim Toth, was charged with drunk driving and Reese was charged with “disorderly conduct.”
This story came as a shock to a lot of people who’ve been talking about it on social media, but the shock isn’t really because of the DUI. Rather, it’s because they can’t believe their beloved Reese’s entitled attitude. She not only asked the officer "Do you know my name?" but when he responded that he did not, she allegedly told him "you're about to find out who I am." Oh, yes, she did.
Many of her fans are surprised that the adorable star of “Legally Blonde” would ever act that snotty and important, but I have to two things to say about this: first, as someone who worked in Hollywood for many years (and who once briefly met Reese when she came in to visit my boss - all I noticed is that she has no pores), I’m not too surprised. It’s not an uncommon way for A-list stars to act, especially when they realize they’re in trouble and need to do something quick to get out of it. After all, she’s got a lot riding on keeping her squeaky clean image.
And second, it’s important to remember that she’s an actress. The person you see in “Sweet Home Alabama” or charming the talk show hosts isn’t really Reese Witherspoon. It’d be nice if it was, but it isn’t. No, the real Reese is probably demanding, tough and egotistical, like most actresses who’ve achieved her level of fame. And that’s okay. And she can’t be expected to always keep up her public persona, especially when she’s just done something as ill-advised and stupid as letting her drunk husband drive her home.
Of course, Witherspon is already doing damage control and issuing heart-felt apologies for the “dumb” things she said that night. And I’m sure she’ll be forgiven by her fans. Everyone knows how it feels to make a mistake like that. But unfortunately for Reese, now everyone also knows a little more about who she really is, too.
