Cara Lemieux

I’m a multimedia journalist in New York City, turned single mother. Well, I became a mom on December 3rd, 2010, but the moment I found out I was pregnant and refused a glass of wine, I went from single and social – to mom. When that plus sign appeared on the pregnancy test the day before my 30th birthday – the way I saw the world changed forever. Now, I’m relying on my amazing family, friends, and very honest sense of humor, to raise my daughter Ellie. You can follow my musings about everything from diapers to the daily drama of juggling a challenging career, as a single working-mom in television at www.MeAndDucky.com

Q:  How many children do you have?

A: I have a one-year-old little girl.  She is really the coolest person I know.  There isn’t anyone else I’d rather spend a Saturday (or Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) night with.

Q:  Where do you live?

A: I live in Manhattan.  I was raised in a Connecticut suburb (please don’t judge – it wasn’t one of those suburbs).  I studied Broadcast Journalism at Ithaca College with the dream of becoming a producer in morning television.  I interned at a morning show and was hired. And, well, here I am.

Q: What’s your astrological sign?

A: I am an Aries through and through.

Q: If your life was made into a Lifetime Movie, what would it be called?

A: This is a tough one.  I am not good with titles or headlines.  But if you need an answer either “Failure Is Not an Option” or “It’s a Process.”

Q: What is one of your favorite quotes?

A: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Corinthians 13:13

I am trying to figure out where to have it tattooed on my body.

Q: What TV or movie character are you most like?

A: Carrie Bradshaw.  Does everyone say that?  No, I know, so clichéd, right?  I can’t help it.  I still talk about the episodes in that show as if they were scenarios that my friends and I experienced.

Q: If you could have dinner with three famous people (dead or alive), who would you invite?

A: Oprah.  That obviously needs no explanation. Elizabeth Gilbert, Author most well known for “Eat, Pray, Love” and “Committed”. I’d like to know how she became comfortable with the vulnerability of exposing the worst and best parts of herself, publically. Katie Couric.  I need to know how she juggled it all.  Obviously she had help – but I’d like to know how she emotionally dealt with the times she had to choose. And our daughters share the same nickname , Ellie, so she needs to be at that dinner.

Q: What is your biggest vice?

A: Letting Ellie play with my cell phone.  It’s a problem.  She is obsessed and it is the only battle I don’t have the effort to fight. So now my phone beeps for reasons unknown to me, and I have no idea how to stop it.

Q: What makes you feel sexy?

A: Um…that is the funniest question I have been asked since I got pregnant.  Boxed wine?  No.  Just kidding.

Nothing.  I thought it was the breast-feeding causing the overwhelming apathy toward the opposite sex, but I stopped nursing almost five months ago, and instead of being turned on when a guy hits on me - I am entertained.

That’s bad, isn’t it?

Q: What’s your most memorable ballsy moment?

A: When I decided to have my daughter – and I vocalized it to all interested parties - knowing that I would be pregnant and parenting without a partner, not because I wanted to, but because I had to.

Then again, I sort of consider from the moment I knew I found out I was pregnant, to the present - one big ballsy moment.
