Birthday Party Idea: Pirate Cookies
2 cups confectioners’ sugar
1 to 2 tablespoons water
2 to 3 drops red food coloring
30 large plain round cookies
4 licorice strips
10 blue jelly beans, cut into thirds
10 red jelly beans, cut into thirds
15 black jelly beans, halved lengthwise
1. Combine the confectioners’ sugar and water in a small bowl. Stand the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water and stir until smooth. Remove 1 tablespoon and tint with red food coloring, and set aside. Spread the cookies evenly with the white frosting.
2. Make the pirate faces while the frosting is still wet. Cut the licorice strips into semicircles for the bandanna. Cut the licorice for mustaches and any leftovers can be used for the eye patches. Use the jelly beans for the eye, mouth, and patch. Make the dots on the bandanna, using the red frosting. Store the cookies in the refrigerator until needed.
