5 Summer Snacks to Keep You Cool
It's summer. It's hot. Rather than crank the AC up and hide inside, I try to stay cool from the inside out with cold and refreshing drinks and snacks to feed myself and my kids. Here are five of my favorites.
Cooling begins in the morning with the first cup of coffee. Rather than heat your core up, try a cup of cold brewed coffee with milk to start your day off right.
I love smoothies of all sorts, but a fresh, in-season mango mixed with yogurt and ginger? This sings from the heavens to me. Plus, it's nutrient dense. Good for you and delicious? This sounds like a winning cool-down snack to me.
Really, any kind of ice cream, gelato or frozen yogurt will do as long as it is homemade. Making ice cream is suprisingly easy, and you can even make certain varieties without an ice cream machine.
Raspberries are in season soon, and while I love to bake with them, eat them by the handful and sprinkle them over salads, the squashed ones generally end up in popsicles, frozen and delicious on a warm afternoon.
Frozen strawberries, liquor, graham cracker crust. Need I say more? The perfect dessert to bring to your next backyard barbecue.
Those are some of my favorite summertime treats. What are yours?
