Encouraging Kids to Cook
There are a million things to do in the world and for me, cooking is at the heart of it all. I'm always amazed at the creativity chefs have but even more impressed when I see kids getting creative in the kitchen.
A while back, I started a Food Challenge where anyone could participate by simply creating a recipe using three required ingredients and including a photo. I had way more entries than I expected but there was one that caught my eye, and that would be Morgan. She entered her Spicy Chicken with Honey Mustard Sauce into my Food Challenge, complete with all three ingredients and a stunning photo. She ended up winning the contest but I was so impressed with her cooking skills and food photography.
Delicious looking huh!
I always have my kids in the kitchen with me or cooking outside on the grill. I want them to be comfortable with it and know that if they wanted to, they could learn more and perhaps make it a profession.
It's also about creating warm family moments and traditions. I remember cooking with my grandma in the kitchen and even though she's not here with us now, I can still pass those memories on to my kids and keep them close to my heart.
Do your kids help you in the kitchen? Do you think they need these skills? I'd love to hear your kid cooking moments! And if you're creative and love to cook, keep your eyes peeled for my monthly food challenge at My Wooden Spoon!
