What's HOT in Food Trends Right Now
Food can be trendy, and not just the food, but the way we eat. It can be used as a status symbol or to show what it is we care about just as much as it can be fun and hip to be seen at the next big cupcake place. So, the question is, what's hot now in the world of food?
Pie. Even though the cupcake shops are still popping up and doing business, pie is the new buzzword of the moment and not just your grandma's pie either, though hers is more than sufficient.

Food Trucks. The food truck community has become a full on movement. Whether you're in New York City where they've been around for ages or in the Midwest, food trucks are everywhere. Established restaurants are sending out their own trucks to favorite lunch truck spots as well to capitalize on the trend.
Signature cocktails and local liquor. Local breweries and wineries will do well, which is no surprise to this Surly-loving girl. House-made bitters and elixirs combine with local distilled spirits and are muddled, shaken and stirred into a drink sensation mixed just in one restaurant's bar, which was evidenced at a recent food writing outing I had where the bartender made cocktails for the attendees specifically.
Local and sustainable eats and eateries. This isn't necessarily a new trend. For quite a few years there's been a push to get back to a farm-oriented community. From canning to expensive farm-to-table dinners in the field, these are trends that have to do with eating real food rather than drive-thru fare.
These are only a few of the hot food trends right now, and someone is always reporting on the next big thing, from macarons to meatless Mondays. What's hot in your city?
