One of our favorite breakfasts is steel cut oats. Just thinking about the nutty flavor and chewy texture makes my mouth water.
And I always look forward to the funny food Bill makes for me.
Did you know that apples go swimmingly with steel cut oats?
Steel cut oats are made from whole grains and are high in fiber and protein.
Healthy and delicious go hand in hand.
I sweeten with cinnamon. It not only smells and tastes great, it also has many nutrients that the body needs because it’s a medicine as well as a spice. Cinnamon has anti-clotting properties and stops the growth of bacteria. For people with type- 2 diabetes, it improves their ability to respond to insulin. It's also an excellent source of fiber, iron and calcium.
Isn’t that ducky?
Who has time to make steel cut oats in the morning?
Steel cut oats require at least 30 minutes to prepare. Most of us don’t have time during the week to watch the oats thicken and then stir for 30 minutes. So I make a huge pot of oatmeal over the weekend and we use it all week. I zap it in the microwave with some milk for 2 or 3 minutes.
You can use Bill’s oatmeal creations in our book Funny Food as inspiration to help you stir things up for breakfast.
