Strawberries and Cream Milkshake "For Moms"
Like many, I enjoy a good, thick milkshake. Sitting in the heat and drinking something creamy and sweet makes me think of family roadtrips from when I grew up, my dad stopping by the Dairy Queen along the way, and always getting a milkshake…to share.
Perhaps it's this insistence that we share everything all the time when I was growing up – as the oldest of five, I could remember enough to know we used to get larger portions before more kids appeared – that has me squealing when my kids slurp down my water from my glass or reach to swipe my dessert.
Here's the thing. I don't want to share. I'm an adult, and I should get my own milkshake, one that is reserved for mom. I do concede to let my husband share, though, as long as it keeps him far from my water glass.
Strawberries and Cream Cocktail
1 ½ ounces (3 tablespoons) light rum
3 ounces(6 tablespoons) cream
3 ounces (6 tablespoons) strawberry puree
1 ½ ounces strawberry liqueur
In a blender with 1 cup ice blend the rum, cream, 4 tablespoons of the strawberry puree, and the strawberry liqueur. Add the remaining 2T strawberry puree to two lowball glasses. Pour blended milkshake over the puree to create a swirled effect.
Garnish with a hulled out strawberry filled with rum. (You can light the rum with a lighter if you want to score points for visual effects, but be careful and practice fire safety.)
