She’s Still Dancing at 9 Months Pregnant and Putting Us All to Shame!
At nine months pregnant, you won’t find Mary Helen Bowers sitting back and eating Nutter Butters and Cheetos. Instead, you find her in fifth position with a demi-plié!
Bowers is a former dancer with the New York City Ballet and the creator of Ballet Beautiful, a low-impact exercise routine that strengths and tones the same muscles used in ballet. She’s also renowned for training the Victoria's Secret Angels as well as Natalie Portman, for her role in “Black Swan”. Now, in her third trimester, Mary Helen is staying active with daily ballet workouts and hopes to inspire others with her pre- and postnatal workout series.
"(My doctor) is incredibly supportive of me not only continuing with my workout, but also with maintaining my regular routine: running my business, creating a new pre-natal series for BB, the works, “ she says. “Pregnancy can be a really exciting and creative time."
Bowers also adds that her exercises target her core. “You can’t do much about the middle of the stomach where the baby is, but there are ways to tone your sides, which I’ve found helps with my back pain,” she says.
Photos shared on her Instagram account, show her looking toned and graceful in a series of tight leotards. Her biggest piece of advice to active, expecting mothers is not to fight the changes happening in their bodies.
I don’t know about you, but the only thing I embraced when I was pregnant was the cookie jar! And even as someone who ISN’T pregnant now, Bowers is putting me to shame in the exercise and fitness category. I guess I know what my New Year’s resolutions are going to be!
