What I Learned From Not Eating For 3 Days!
Okay, I’m not an advocate of extreme dieting and a total foodie, so what do I mean by not eating? I went on a 3 day juice cleanse. 3 days-6 juices a day and no solid food. No, I’m not doing it to lose weight, although I probably did, but I’ll probably gain it back once I eat solids again. I did it because I was feeling a little overindulgent lately and it was time to get back on track.
I used to think people who did juice fasts, cleanses whatever you want to call them, were crazy. I love food, how can I not eat for 3 or 5 days? I believe in moderation, but I also believe in clean, healthy eating and with my recent vacation, kids’ birthday parties, Mother’s Day buffets, late night “I deserve some ice cream” breaks, etc. I was neither moderate or clean with my diet. It was time to reset my system. The juice cleanse was filled with green juices (apple, kale, spinach, celery, lemon etc.), lemon and cayenne (like the master cleanse), even ones with cashews and almonds for some protein at night. I was getting all the nutrients I needed and even more so than my normal diet. I have green juices all the time, but usually to complement my meal. It was easier than I thought it would be, although it was a pain when I had to make my kids’ meals. By day 3, I was ready for some food and when I had my first bite it tasted sooo good. I had guacamole for breakfast. I know, weird craving, but it was what I really wanted.
My husband and I did it together which was nice. I liked having the moral support, but it didn’t help that he was trying to convince me to share a bottle of wine the night before we started. (Not recommended before a cleanse). I didn’t give in fortunately. Overall the experience was great and I feel light and energetic.
Here’s what I learned from not eating:
-I eat too many of my kids snacks without even knowing it.
-It’s nice to not think about what to eat.
-I love not having to do dishes.
-I love the smell of food.
-I can go to a kid's birthday party and have the will power to not eat pizza and cake.
-Other people either think you are a little crazy or they want to do it too.
So now I just have keep it up by eating more fruits and veggies.
Have you ever done a cleanse? What was your experience?
