5 Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas
Fall is in the air and my kids are dreaming about Halloween costumes. I don't have a stitch of craftiness in me - although I love and appreciate a homemade costume as much as the next person. There is just something so REAL about a homemade costume, you know?
Here are a few easy DIY ideas that even those of us who are spooked by the thought of making a homemade costume can embrace!
1. Farmer
Wear a flannel shirt, straw hat, jeans, and anything John Deere! You can even chew on a piece of straw.
2. Construction Worker
Grab a plaid shirt and keep it open, revealing a Hanes white tee underneath. Pop on a construction hard hat, wear a big brown belt, and you are set. Perk up the costsume with some play tools or even a few real items from Daddy's toolbox.
3. Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz
My daughter Mackenzie, at age 3, borrowed this homemade costume from my best friend. Isn't it the cutest thing ever? All you need is a little basket, shiny red shoes and a cute stuffed puppy that can pop out of your basket. Perfect the outfit with a little blue and white dress -- ideally plaid -- if you have one on hand.
4. Gypsy
My Mom dressed me as a Gypsy multiple times over the years - alternating with being a cat, another easy homemade costume! Generally when we couldn't find a costume to bororw, the gypsy I became. I wore oversized clothes, lots of long beads and a fabulous bandana wrapped around my head. Plus it's a great excuse to let the little girls wear a bit of make up which I loved as a child!
5. Mummy
Grab all of the Ace Bandages out of the bathroom closet and loosely wind them all around the little tyke. My husband dressed as this in Kindergarten and supposedly it was the cutest thing ever!
