Army Wives Home Deco – 4 Ways to Use Wire Shelving
I have been admiring the red open shelving in the previous home of the Sherwoods on Army Wives for quite some time – remember the red shelving Denise painted in the one episode? Since most homes don’t come with open shelving and many don’t have enough storage space, I have one quick and cheap solution: wire shelving. It’s not just inexpensive, but also easy to move and easy to store in the garage or even under the bed when you don’t need it. This works for almost any room when you need shelving quickly.
You can get wire shelving from any home store like Home Depot, and they normally come in steel (silver) or painted in black, skip the white one unless you absolutely love it, since that ultimately looks something like, well, only meant for your closets. Wire shelving of course is great for inside closets and in your pantry and garage, but with a few tricks, they can provide cool shelving for other rooms as well. There are several sizes available to fit the space where you need it.
Four cool ways to use wire shelving:
1. Wire shelving is great for kitchens. Not just inside your pantry, but also as a self-standing piece. Especially great for small kitchens, the open shelving will make your kitchen look more spacious, while you are still getting the storage space. Bonus- you can adjust the shelving to make it perfect shelving even for larger items.
2. Use a closet system that comes with a shelf on each side, and a clothing rack in the middle as self-standing office shelving. Just remove the bar for hanging clothes, and use the shelving system to wrap around an office table. The shelves are adjustable to get the right size for a printer and binders. You can hang lighting from the top shelf to point directly to your desk.
3. The same type of closet system works great in the kid’s room as well, especially giving you a cool and modern look for a boy’s room. Instead of a desk, you can leave the middle part empty and hang a picture there, and attach spotlights to the shelving to point to the picture.
4. Almost any size of wire shelving can be covered with fabric to hide the industrial look. Either cover only the sides, or make a cover for the entire shelf to hide it to get ample storage space that actually looks great.
