Feels Like Home Already
This is officially my first blog post as a Lifetime Mom so I thought I’d introduce myself. My name is Katja, and I want to personally invite you to come over to hang out at my new place here at the fabulous LifetimeMoms.com. The paint is still wet, but it sure looks stylish!
I’ve always had an eye for design and passion for home decorating. I am by no means a professional interior designer, and most of my skills are self-taught by reading books, surfing the internet and watching way too many DIY and home decorating TV shows – you know, the way that stay-at-home-moms teach themselves new skills or even a profession.
I owned a modern online store for families, and sold some home products as well, but I closed down my store last year. Now I write at SkimbacoLifestyle.com and SkimbacoHome.com.
Skimbaco means living life to the fullest, enjoying every moment of it (think of it like carpe diem for modern moms) and that attitude also shows at my homes. I like to try new things, new techniques and new styles, and I look forward sharing these trials and successes with you.
I’m originally from Finland, and you will notice that I love Scandinavian design, but I try not to overpower you with Marimekko here, and try not to recommend something from IKEA every week. If you visited some of our homes, you might not even know my Scandinavian heritage. In the past ten years we have lived in Main-river Valley in Germany, a 100-year-old Victorian in upstate New York, a mountainside cabin in the Rocky Mountains and designed a brand new mini-mansion in the suburbs of Nashville, just to name a few.
I am a mom on the move, but the old saying, “There is no place like home,” applies to me too. My address may change often, but you can build a home anywhere. I know that in this economic climate home decorating is the last thing in many people’s minds, but I want to show you that making your home nice doesn’t have to break the bank and I want to inspire you to make your home a place where you can live life to the fullest – every day.
If you didn’t already guess from my frequent moving, I am a former army wife, and the Army Wives is one of my favorite Lifetime TV shows. There are a few things that connect all of the real life army wives – their husband’s are in the military, and they move every three years or so. Inspired by the Army Wives TV show and the real-life army wives, I am starting a series of articles called “Army Wives Home Deco.” Easy and fast home decorating that isn’t expensive, smart solutions (even if you have to move soon), and yes, a little spin from our favorite TV show!
Welcome to my new place, make yourself at home!
