Top 3 Decorating Trends That Don't Cost Much

Fall is here!

A new season usually makes us want to mix it up at home too. This fall is a great time to bring a new look to your home with some of these super simple decorating tips that will be a good fit for the season - and won't cost much.

1. Reuse & Use What You Already Own

Sustainable living and "less is more" are the biggest lifestyle trends right now, including in decorating. Jennae wrote a great post on how many people think that eco decorating means buying bamboo products - while the best way to start greening your decorating is using what you already have. I was on the set of The Nate Berkus Show this week, and he calls this "shopping your own home". Start looking at your old items with new eyes and think of new ways to mix up old things. You don't have to buy everything new to make your home look trendy and fresh - just rearrange, hide some old things and highlight others! You can also buy used furniture to stay green and save some green.

2. Get Some Color For The Walls

Painting isn't very expensive, and you can paint a small room in a weekend. However if you want to save time and money, try only painting one wall. Make it a focal point in your room and use a contrasting color. This fall I am drawn to different shades of gray and red. Wallpaper is actually even trendier, but if you haven't applied wallpaper before it can be a hassle and also become expensive. Try wall decals for instant and inexpensive color. One of my favorite ways to decorate walls is hanging fabrics, with or without a frame.

3. Bring The Nature In

I can't get enough of talking about bringing in some pine cones, colorful fall leaves, or even the collections of seashells to remind you of the summer. You can make beautiful centerpieces and wreaths from items you find in nature. Add a basket full of pine cones next to your fireplace, or put acorns in a small bowl on a side table. Think about how you can use fruit in decorating - a bowl of apples or a vase of limes look great and will invite you and your kids to enjoy more fruit too.
