4 Mom Indulgences on the Quick -- No Husbands or Kids Allowed
Pre-marriage and subsequent baby in the carriage, I considered myself tragically hip – and, yes, maybe somewhat enslaved to trendy footwear. In fact, as a New York City single twenty something, I even went so far as to fork over one entire paycheck for a pair of Jimmy Choo stilettos. Fortunately for both my pocketbook and husband, I am currently comfortably ensconced in my role as sensible mommy, and my days of flagrant spending on trendy must-haves are behind me.
Yet every once in a while in the midst of dishes needing to be cleaned, tushies wiped, homework done, meals served; I get this strange feeling like something is not right . And then I look down at my yoga pants and disheveled hair in a bun and panic. I realize I've become that "mom jeans" and oversized sweatshirt wearing mom. And it's moments like that when I remember sometimes I need to shed my all mommy all the time persona and just do stuff that will reinvigorate me, especially when I feel kind of like I've lost my zing since having kids.
So writing this post is my gift to both myself and all the moms out there who never stop multi-tasking, who do their utmost to keep their kids grinning from ear to ear and probably don't even consider taking five minutes out for themselves. Keep reading for five ways to sneak in some simple treats that will easily rejuvenate your spirit!
#1 Girlfriend pow wow
You need some girlfriend power, a little gossip and adult-only conversation. On a weeknight, stash your kids with your husband or a sitter, and meet your girlfriends at your favorite supermarket. Grab your grocery carts, lists in hand and begin your gab fest — sample some deli goodies and shop till you drop.
#2 Decadent beverage and a book
You’ve just dropped your daughter off at ballet class; you have 45 minutes to kill. Instead of driving home and back, take those 45 minutes and make the most of them! Sip a banana-protein smoothie or a mocha frappucino; basically any foodie indulgence that only requires a straw. And dive into another chapter of that book that’s been collecting dust on your night stand.
#3 Makeover at the mall
You’ve earmarked an hour to get some errands done at the Mall; what about indulging in a quickie makeover? Makeup artists at the makeup counter are ready and waiting for moms just like you to test-drive their new products and you can certainly use a new lip gloss and blush! In 20 minutes, you’ll feel revitalized and ready to take on your errands list.
#4 Art Therapy
Whoever said painting ceramics was just for kids never tried their hand at it as an adult! Whether it's painting pottery, watercolors or scrapbooking step out of your harried life, unleash your inner Picasso and make something that is just for you.
So what is your go to mom only indulgence on the quick?
