Project Runway

Another Elimination & A Pretty Pastel Look for Moms

Despite having a crazy busy week, I actually managed to sit down and watch “Project Runway All Stars” last week at its proper 9 PM run time. Another miracle to be noted, was the fact that le toddler was actually asleep by 9 PM. And why wouldn’t my three year old be slumbering away at that time of night you ask? Because he’s a total night owl like his mama…that’s why! Our goal is to have him in bed around nine, but that doesn’t always happen. So, you can imagine my delight when I got to sit down and enjoy one of my favorite shows minus the typical toddler background noise!

Well, we’re getting down to the nitty gritty now. The last episode’s elimination brought us to the final three designers who would be participating in the finale show. I think it was pretty clear from the judges’ reactions to the garments just who was going home last week…don’t you?

This time around, the designers were treated to the chance to design a ready-to-wear look for Nanette Lepore who would then sell the winning design in her stores. Funnily enough, Mondo, who was the least sure of himself, ended up being the big winner! The fact that he couldn’t sketch and had to present his idea to Ms. Lepore without a beautiful drawing to depict his vision really seemed to shake his confidence. In the end, however, his mixed print frock won the hearts of the judges and, by the way, it’s already sold out!

Kenley started off strong, but her elimination of the keyhole element in the design that she originally presented hurt her. Her peacock print dress just didn’t stand up to the other designers’ creations.  Although, she clearly still digs the print she chose.

I chatted with her for a few minutes last Friday and when she was asked about her fabric choice, she had this to say… “I loved the print. It just jumped out at me. It really caught my eye. Nothing else really caught my eye, except for that print. I’m a big print girl. That's what I'm all about and I wasn't going to use a mediocre print next to that one.”

Despite her confidence with her choice, she didn’t seem surprised about her elimination. “I had the feeling the night beforehand. I prepared myself,” she said. That’s not to say she wasn’t  disappointed. When asked how it felt to get so

close to the end and not make it, she responded, “It was a bummer. You work so hard. It's going to be disappointing for anyone who goes through that process.”

Don’t worry about Kenley though y’all. Someone with as much confidence as she has usually lands on her feet. She reminds me of a very feisty cat that way. Just sayin’.

I won’t leave you without giving you a challenge inspired look and I decided to use Mondo’s garment yet again. The mix of stripes and a sunny yellow hue really spoke to me!
