Back To School, Back To Moms' Night (Weekend) Out!
I know back to school is stressful for the kids--new teachers, new routines, a renewed desire to not go back to school, but, let's face it, it is even more stressful for moms.
I mean, have you seen the school supply lists we have to contend with?? What about the mountain of forms that come home the first day? I haven't signed that much paperwork since I purchased my first home. Can you say carpal tunnel?? Not to mention that we have to get right back to homework monitoring, producing meals at a reasonable hour (not my summer supper thing), getting them into bed at a reasonable hour (not my summer "whatever" thing), and keeping track of all the after school activities.
And now that I have one kid in elementary school and one kid in middle school, the level of time management and people management involved is making me grateful for my time at Columbia Business School.
After three days, I was exhausted. Totally. And I'm not ashamed to say, I needed a break!!
With so much focus on their every need, it was time to give myself some attention.
I packed my bags, called the sitter and my fav manpanion and took a much needed road trip to Atlantic City. The super fab, new Revel resort to be exact and it was exactly what mama needed.
Call me what you want for needing a back to school break one week in, but I'm a firm believer that breaks away from my children make me a better mother when I am with my children.
Case in point, after a quick overnight in a luxurious hotel room with ocean views, an amazing meal at Revel’s finest restaurant, a spin on the dance floor (not to mention taking in the burlesque show), and lounging in the hotel's heated pool, I was much more prepared to come back home to sharpen more pencils, buy yet even more paper towels and disinfecting wipes (really, how much does one class need??) and deal with the heavily recruiting (but always annoying) PTA moms.
In other words, now I'm ready for the school year. I highly recommend a getaway to any mom who can make it happen. Back to school is already stressful for the kids, why should it be for us?
Have you felt in need of a back to school break? Did you take one??
