Broke But Need To Host Your Child's Birthday Bash?
This summer, I got a serious wake up call about how many families in our country are being beaten down by this economy. The burning question for party hosts has shifted from “what is the hot party theme” to “how can I afford to have the party?” One inquiry I received from an online friend really made me stop and think. It was from a Mom a little younger than me, who was struggling with how she would be able to afford a birthday party for her 8 year old daughter. I could not imagine grappling with the choice of whether to put gas in the car and pay the phone bill or be able to host a small party for my child to celebrate his birthday. It broke my heart and got me thinking. With her budget of just a few dollars for her daughter and 6 friends we came up with a fabulous party idea!
A Sleep-over Waffle Party
Waffles are perfect party food, for any reason, in any season. They are also a seriously budget friendly way to feed your guests and make them feel special. Waffles can be served for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or even dessert – especially to kids! You can top them with ice cream, icing, chocolate, fruit or just serve them with whipped cream and sprinkle them with jimmies or powered sugar. Anyway you decide to do it is fine - the fun will follow. So that this Mom didn't feel like a party pooper, I suggested she start with a sleep over (make sure the invite is for after the dinner hour). The 'PM' party included a movie and popcorn and just letting the kids be kids. The "AM' Party time included an amazing waffle bar! It's a great way to let everyone feel joy and you will feel good about sending the kids home happy and satisfied. *Store bought Waffles are around $2.59 for a 10 ct box – that’s just 25 cents a waffle and there’s no work! If you make them yourself it’s even cheaper.
