Jenn Lee of Winter Springs, Fla., has been a motivational speaker and coach since 2007, serving professional women who are stuck between where they are now and where they want to be.

‘Ah ha’ moment that led to launching the business: I woke up one day, tired of working for organizations that kept pigeonholing me into ‘desktop’ management positions where I spent my days in meetings, when my real strength and passion is empowering individuals to think bigger and better.

Ideal customer: Professional women between the ages of 38 and 50.

First customer: My first customer was a professional woman looking for help in balancing her life so she could focus on growing her business. A common request!

Measuring success: I measure success by the number of clients and referrals I receive and the amount of money in my bank account. Earliest success that sticks out is when I booked a speaking engagement for a national organization. Two days after I spoke, the meeting planner called from another division and said, “We have to have you speak at our conference.” What a thrill!

Biggest struggle: Finding vendors and other service professionals to work with who are as dedicated and crazy as me with their work ethic.

Surprise!: The amount of your time people will waste trying to sell you something.

Promoting business: Speaking. When I am invited to speak, no matter what the organization or time frame, I gain business within a week. My “Midweek Mojo” e-newsletter is extremely effective, as well.

What you wish you would have known: Spend the money to have your brand (Web site, Facebook, marketing materials) look fabulous, right out of the gate.

What keeps you up at night (business wise!)?: Knowing that there is still so much I can and should do: Twitter/Facebook/prospect calls/follow-ups.

Ever tempted to throw in the towel and just get a job?: No. I really believe in what I am doing and see progress every day…there’s no turning back for me!
