Girlfriend Trips to the Vineyards - I'll Drink to That!
As a mom and as a travel blogger, I am huge advocate for getaways with your girlfriends.
There’s something really refreshing and spiritually rewarding about going away with a group of your besties and spending some quality time away from the domestic and maternal bliss of our regular lives.
My favorite getaways are to vineyards where my girlfriends and I can bond and relax.
I recently spent a few days surrounded by wonderful women in Napa Valley, checking out all sorts of great vineyards and eating amazing food. Of course visiting Napa for wine tastings and food pairings is an experience every girlfriend should have on her bucket list, but it’s not the only place to go to.
There are many more vineyards closer to my home here in the tri-state area that are worth checking out as well.
I highly recommend checking out the Long Island Wine Country. There are an endless list of fabulous wineries in the area, as well as beaches, museums and services such as spas and B&B accommodations, perfect for girlfriends’ retreats, even if just for the weekend. One of my absolute favorites is Wölffer Estate Vineyards located in Sagaponack, NY, about a 2-hour drive from NYC. Sag Harbor itself is full of charm and appeals to the traveler wanting a slower pace and a lot of quiet, and Wölffer Estate is just a fairy tale place to be, especially during the sunset hours. Wölffer Estate hosts several events throughout the year, including wine tastings while listening to jazz and eating cheese .
Another great place to consider, especially if looking to really get in a nice road trip, is Finger Lakes, New York about a 5-hour drive from NYC. Finger lakes Wine Country also boasts an endless list of attractions and services, but they really think about us moms looking for an escape with their Girlfriend Getaway package.
When visiting a vineyard with your girlfriends, you can do as much or as little as you’d like. In my experience, wine tasters and makers are happy to spoil guests with great wine and local chefs, happy to feed us an endless supply of culinary treats and more than delighted to teach us as much as they can about wine. You can spend the days visiting and learning, at the spa, hiking, or just drinking, laughing and enjoying your friends.
As with any trip you plan, whether it is with your girlfriend, your partner, or your family, discuss interests ahead of time, and make sure that everyone is on the same page as far as expectations go. I have found that the more intimate or smaller the group, the easier it is to really connect and do things. The goal is to enjoy, not spend the day stuck to schedules and itineraries.
I would also recommend visiting the vineyards during off-season as well. This allow for a less congested environment and a more tranquil feel overall.
So, why not get the girls together and plan a trip to the vineyards? Whether you head to California or stay closer to home here in NYC, you are bound to have a beautiful time. And while you are at it, have an extra drink for me.
