How to Plan and Have a Mom Getaway
By Laura Sussely-Pope, Pregnancy.org
It can be a challenge to carve out and find time for a girls’ night out. What about a mom’s weekend away? It might be easier to plan than you think. Dad knows he can’t pick up the phone and call you to come right back because he can’t figure out how to fix your daughter’s hair!
Stepping away from your “mom” role and getting together with your girlfriends for a couple of days is rejuvenating, fun and relaxing. Many women who have met online through support groups are planning meet-ups. Playgroup moms are putting together all kinds of adventures, and friends who’ve known each other a long time plan weekend getaways when they can.
These mini-vacations allow busy moms to stay up late talking, sleep in, eat whenever and wherever they want, share, laugh, cry and just feel “free,” if only for a weekend. They have become so popular that travel agencies are now creating affordable “mom getaway” weekend packages.
Your getaway can be a pampering weekend at a local or far away spa. There are plenty of spas in every state where you can find appealing packages. Imagine a few days of sunning, swimming, getting massages, mani/pedis, enjoying good food and wine and most importantly, good company!
You might also enjoy getting a cabin in the mountains or woods somewhere. Secluded, quiet, calm – something we don’t get much of at home. Quiet hikes, walks and views lend themselves to conversation, uninterrupted by “mom, mom, mom.”
Another options is renting a bungalow on the beach or getting rooms at a hotel on the beach. You can picture waking to the sounds of the ocean, a delicious breakfast, and taking a walk on the beach with your dearest friends.
Consider doing something you’ve never done. How about white water rafting, zip lining, touring wine country or signing up for cooking lessons? Learn how to ski! You aren’t likely to do most of these with little ones in tow.
